Abstract: Polarization changes at different stages of a planet’s orbit are complementary and enhance the information obtainable using spectroscopy. We describe how broadband polarimetry can be used in the future search for liquid water on extrasolar planets by detecting rainbow scattering from cloud droplets and a “glint” from the surface of the oceans.
