Abstract: We present K-band integral field spectroscopy observations of the circumstellar envelope of the post-asymptotic giant branch star IRAS 16594-4656, revealing several collisionally excited H2 emission lines. The principal aim of this work is to investigate the nature of the H2 excitation mechanisms via line transitions coupled with shock model predictions for these transitions. Spatial and spectral information were simultaneously acquired using the SINFONI integral field unit on VLT with adaptive optics; the medium resolution mode covering the entire K-band (1.95 – 2.45μm) was used.
