Abstract: Knowledge of the yields produced by intermediate-mass stars during the thermal-pulse phase is important for a number of topics which are open issues in astrophysics, e.g. dust production at high redshifts, the self-enrichment mechanism in globular clusters, accounting for the luminosity function of carbon and lithium-rich stars in the Magellanic Clouds, and the integrated spectra of distant galaxies. We discuss and compare the two mechanisms that can potentially alter the surface chemistry of these stars, i.e. Hot Bottom Burning and the Third Dredge-Up, outlining the range of masses where each of them is dominant, and discussing the relative uncertainties. We also discuss the yields from Super-AGB stars, which evolve through the thermal pulse phase with a degenerate core of neon and oxygen.
