Abstract: Cyclic changes in an (O–C) curve are a fairly common phenomenon in close binary stars, which suggest a common underlying mechanism. We have discussed the cause of this phenomenon, it is indicated that the light-time effect (LTTE) caused by the third body is the most probable physical explanation of the cyclic changes in an (O–C) curve in close binaries. Including some new times of light minimum obtained by us, here we give some examples of search for different types of tertiary companions in close binary stars by using LTTE.
