Abstract: Dispel misconceptions by using the 5-E Model for a unit of instruction to scaffold activities for students on the positions and motions of the Earth, Moon, and Sun. Begin with observations and inferences, reinforce with on-line simulations and on-line research, and end with an authentic performance assessment task. The unit begins with the essential question: How do the positions and motions of the Earth, Moon, and Sun determine what we see?
