Abstract: We present a preliminary analysis of the far-ultraviolet spectra of four DB white dwarfs spanning the effective temperature range between 16,200 K and 21,500 K. Carbon features, observed in several hot DB stars at or above 22,000 K, are present in the coolest (GD 378) and in the hottest (G 270−124) target. In addition, the FUSE observations show that three of the four objects display photospheric silicon features. The variations of the C and Si abundances as a function of effective temperature in DB stars are interpreted in terms of a competition between a stellar wind, gravitational settling, ISM accretion and convective dredge-up.
