| Abstract: |
Deconvolution of observations is now commonplace for synthetic apertures such as occur in radio astronomy and is performed by nearly every VLA observer as a standard part of the data reduction. It is less common in real aperture observing, especially at optical/IR wavelengths, though the well known spherical aberration of the Hubble Space Telescope is causing a resurgence of interest. Although the two problems are substantially different, much can be learnt from a comparison. I will attempt such a comparison and will also give some advice as to how to go about devising new processing algorithms. |
