Abstract: Time-resolved spectroscopy of the SU UMa system IY UMa shortly before and during the early stages of a normal outburst reveals dramatic changes in the accretion flow. Through Doppler tomography we study the emission distribution and conclude that reprocessing of boundary layer radiation is the dominant emission line mechanism in outburst.
