Abstract: SCIAMACHY (Scanning Imaging Spectrometer for Atmospheric Chartography) onboard ENVISAT successfully captured visible and near-infrared spectra of sunlight scattered and reflected from the Venus atmosphere. Only when the planet was rising above the Earth’s limb, the line-of-sight geometry allowed the observation of Venus. Addtionally, Venus spectra were simulated using a line-by-line radiative transfer model. These modeled spectra can be used for a better understanding of the Venus atmospheric composition and therefore for helping in the explanation of the Venusian spectra measured by SCIAMACHY. In this work we present results for the Venus atmosphere, both experimental and simulated.
