Abstract: We discuss the characteristics of known extremely metal-poor (EMP) stars in the Galaxy using stellar evolution models and the Stellar Abundances for Galactic Archaeology (SAGA) database. We compare the observed characteristics of carbon-enhanced EMP (CEMP) stars with the evolution and nucleosynthesis in EMP AGB stars. In particular, we focus on the transition of the initial mass function (IMF) during the early evolution of the Galaxy based on the statistics of CEMP stars. This work is devoted to the explanation for the sharp drop of the CEMP star frequency at [Fe/H] ∼ –2 by considering the efficiency of carbon dredge-up during the AGB phase. We conclude that high-mass IMF is favored at low-metallicity, although there are still some uncertainties in the results affected by stellar models and binary nature.
