Abstract: Dwarf Cepheid stars are known to follow a period–luminosity relationship. There are however several challenges ahead in order to characterize these types of variable stars and understand their limitations as standard candles for use in extra-galactic systems. Dwarf Cepheids have been searched in only a few extragalactic systems. Here we discuss the results of an observational program with the Dark Energy Camera at the 4m Blanco Telescope at Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory, Chile, to search for faint, short period variable stars in the Sextans dwarf Spheroidal galaxy.
