Abstract: The expansion in the development and availability of Clouds, and the growing interest of governments and funding agencies for Open Clouds, are bound to have an impact on the way Astronomy will operate in the near future. Careful planning, possibly coordinated at the global level, needs to occur to take the maximum advantage of this opportunity. In Europe, the approach followed by the ASTERICS project to coordinate with the development of the European Open Science Cloud is described.
