Abstract: In this paper we present a three-dimensional MHD simulation of a magnetic flux tube emerging into the solar atmosphere from below the surface. The aim of this study is to investigate how the magnetic energy and magnetic helicity are injected into the atmosphere by an emerging flux tube. We show the temporal development of gas motions and magnetic polarity regions at the photosphere, both of which are key factors affecting the injection of magnetic energy and magnetic helicity. At the early phase of emergence, the dipolar structure of magnetic field appears at the photosphere with a diverging flow. Then as inner field lines of the flux tube emerge into the photosphere, a shearing flow arises and the dipolar structure is changed to quadrupolar structure at the late phase. The magnetic energy and magnetic helicity are injected by vertical motions at the early phase, while shearing motions become a dominant contributor to injecting those at the late phase.
