Abstract: |
Observations of infrared spectra of H3+ and CO have revealed
warm (T∼250 K) and diffuse (n∼100 cm–3) gas toward
15 stars from Sgr A* to 30 pc east. This adds a new category of gas
to the three previously known. We have now extended the observations
to wider regions of the Central Molecular Zone (CMZ) and found two
remarkable sightlines approximately 140 pc west and 85 pc east of
Sgr A* with strong H3+ spectra giving further evidence for the
ubiquity and the large volume filling factor of the newly found gas
in the CMZ. |
