Abstract: The Cornell Center for Radiophysics & Space Research Education & Public Outreach program partnered with the Cornell Ask an Astronomer website team to offer an International Year of Astronomy Contest in New York for grades K–6. The goals of the contest were to reach new audiences and increase interest in astronomy through an innovative multi-disciplinary approach. Four grade-level-range categories offered developmentally appropriate original art projects about celestial objects. We received 263 individual entries from 14 different schools. Graduate students and other scientists in the Department of Astronomy judged the entries, and prizes provided by New York Space Grant were awarded to winning students and their teachers. Winning entries were posted on the Ask an Astronomer website.
