Abstract: |
This review will provide an overview of and introduction to astronomical polarization, and suggest how polarization measurements might be of use in a variety of problems. We then look at how polarization is described by the “Stokes vector”; how it is measured by simple polarimeters and spectropolarimeters; and the main reduction and calibration issues for polarization data. We will discuss the information others might need in order to model a published data set, and conclude with an illuminating example. |
