This paper describes the salient features of the Spider spectrograph, an experimental multifiber spectroscopic instrument being currently constructed for the Beijing Astronomical Observatory (BAO) 60/90 cm Schmidt telescope, which will be able to simultaneously obtain spectra of many objects in the 5-deg field of the telescope. Ten-meter-long optical fibers are used to link the telescope and the spectrograph. The buttons carrying the fibers are positioned at a magnetic steel plate according to the target field of the plate taken at the telescope by means of the Blink Comparator. |
