Abstract: |
Initiated in 1991, the IRON Project has had two main objectives: (i) to study the characteristics of and calculate large-scale accurate datasets for atomic radiative and collisional processes; and (ii) to solve astrophysical problems based on reliable atomic data. It has given priority to the complex iron and iron-peak elements widely observed in the spectra of astrophysical plasmas. In the present report we illustrate the features of the dominant atomic process of photoionization that have been established under this project and the preceding Opacity Project and their importance in applications. |
