Abstract: Informal science education has an important role to play in not just educating the public about the causes and impacts of global warming, but also to get them to contemplate their role in making their communities more resilient to the effects from climate change, and to consider what types of mitigation or adaptation strategies they or their community need to undertake. Instead of the passive engagement associated with traditional museum exhibits or documentary films, cutting edge informal education programs actively engage their participants in learning about and implementing solutions to improve community wellbeing. They instill hope that individuals, groups, and even youth can make a difference, and that they too can become changemakers.
